Launching your website is an exciting occasion for your business. Now it is live, the next job is making it easy for people to find it. Getting more traffic to your site means being listed in the search results on Google and other search engines like Bing.
Unfortunately, a lot of patience is needed while you wait for the search engine bots to crawl and find your new website. You can, however, help speed up the process using a few search engine optimisation techniques.
1. Set-up Google Analytics
Google Analytics is a free web analytics tool offered by Google that tracks and reports website traffic. Google Analytics will help you understand how many visitors are coming to your website and where those visitors are coming from. http://www.google.com/analytics/
2. Set-up Google Search Console and submit your site to Google
Google Search Console (previously Google Webmaster Tools) is a free service from Google that allows you to index and optimise visibility of your website. Once you have set-up an account you will be able to submit your website to Google.
3. Set-up Bing Webmaster Tools and submit your site to Bing
Bing Webmaster Tools is a free service from Bing that will help you drive more visitors to your site using Bing data and tools. Once you have set-up an account you will be able to submit your website to Bing.
4. Create or update your social media profiles
The search engine crawlers get to your website via links. One way to get some quick links is posting links from your new website on your social media pages. These include Twitter, Facebook, Google+, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Youtube etc.
5. Build citations in local directories
A citation is a mention of your business name, address, phone number and/or website. Citations help broaden the visibility of your business and website. Directories include websites like www.yelp.com.au , www.truelocal.com.au, www.hotfrog.com.au and many more. For a list of the Top 20 Australian Business Directories click here.
